Xanadu Winning Popularity Contest Among Five Bidders

There are now five serious bidders for Xanadu—a massive long-stalled retail and entertainment project in the Meadowlands—and the winner could be announced within the month, according to New Jersey’s Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno. The announcement was made at a recent event sponsored by the Meadowlands Liberty Convention and New Jersey’s Visitors Bureau. Guadagno’s comments, based on information supplied by Jon F. Hanson, an adviser to Governor Chris Christie, were met with applause but also some skepticism. A lending group took over the unfinished construction in September.

There are five suitors for the project, according to Guadagno, who said she was sure that in the next month or so there will be some action on Xanadu—subject to all appropriate approvals. Supporters of the property, which has been called an eyesore by many locals, say that it will be favorable for the Meadowlands.
